Barroso unhappy with progress made by EU on energy efficiency,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]
European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso expressed dissatisfaction Wednesday with progress made by the European Union (EU) on energy efficiency.
"Let me tell you very frankly that I am unhappy with the progress made on energy efficiency,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," Barroso said during an orientation debate on energy and innovation here.
While the EU was making a lot of progress on renewables and was expected to fulfil its 20 percent target by 2020,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], "this is not the case for our target on energy efficiency,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," the president said.
He called on EU leaders,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], who are to hold an extraordinary meeting in Feburary,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], to "agree on the key missing infrastructure links and on how to remove all barriers to a truly European energy market".
"I would like to see the European Council agree on concrete actions to reach the 20 percent target by 2020,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," Barroso said.
The president said the EU should develop future work around five priorities,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], which included a strong energy policy,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], an internal market in energy,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], building the EU's new energy infrastructure,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], making decisive progress on energy efficiency and "an effective and united" European approach in terms of external energy policy.
"I believe that security and diversification of our energy supplies are one of Europe's strategic priorities,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," he said.
To achieve its energy efficiency and renewables targets by 2020,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the EU unveiled a new energy strategy in November last year,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], proposing to invest 1 trillion euros (about 1.32 trillion U.S. dollars).
[link widoczny dla zalogowanych] (sometimes called uggs) are unisex sheepskin boots,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], made of twin-faced sheepskin with fleece on the inside and with a tanned outer surface,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], often with a synthetic sole. Ugg boots are believed to have been first developed in New Zealand or Australia,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], although the exact date is uncertain. There has been a dispute between manufacturers of ugg boots,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], as to whether "ugg" is a generic term and thus ineligible for trademark protection,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], especially in the region of origin. Deckers Outdoor Corporation holds the UGG trademark in more than 100 countries worldwide. Notable exceptions are Australia and New Zealand where the term is considered generic.
