Baby cannot wait to get going,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]! She may fuss and fuss until an adult sits her up in a chair or lap. While parents can show their baby how to balance herself in a standing position, it may take a long frustrating month of repeated attempts before she can pull herself up independently for herself.
When baby begins to manipulate objects and show signs of wanting to be mobile,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], many parents ask how to help her develop new skills. Encouraging her while she reaches for toys and explores objects, accepting her frequent moments of frustrations, and giving her adult approval at her achievements, contribute significantly to an infant’s development.

Preserve Baby’s Inner Drive With Adult Approval
From the age of 4 months or older, a baby babbles and listens, and turns her head towards voices she recognizes. She laughs out loud, enjoys eye contact and gives plenty of smiles. She shows her pleasure by laughing and kicking her legs. When lying on her stomach, she lifts her head and chest, as well as waves her legs and arms about. She brings toys and objects to her mouth by hand and is able to hold them for brief periods. She will topple over if put into a sitting position, and may roll over from her front to her back.
Active Baby: Rolling, Crawling, Shuffling, Standing
Parents can help baby reach important milestones by congratulating her at every achievement. They will notice that as she accomplishes her goals, she looks around for adult approval. Adults around her making exclamation noises such as, “wow!” and “ooh!”, and offering lots of cuddles, provides her with impetus to strive further.
Frustration provides a powerful force for baby’s learning. Understanding baby’s drive and intensity to learn, ensures that mums and dads become baby’s ally in her development without sabotaging her inner drive. A baby’s frustration is one of the most important ways that helps her achieve significant breakthroughs in learning new skills.
To encourage baby’s development, providing her with a colorful "toy gym" and loose toys to look at, touch, grab, mouth and hit,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], as well as encouraging her to reach for things, will help her achieve her goal of handling and maneuvering objects. Baby works hard learning to transfer toys from one hand to the other. She also spends much of her time struggling to sit and eventually to pull herself to a standing position.
Baby Development: Baby Works Hard
Most babies learn to crawl between 6 and 10 months. While many spontaneously roll over for the first time at this age, just as many do not. When baby happens to turn herself over, the suddenness coupled with a strange new posture, can be frightening and may put her
While parents more than likely have established feeding and sleeping routines with baby – she may eat meals with the family now and wake less frequently during the night – these routines can be easily upset by competing interests. At this developmental milestone, baby wants to look around, listen and explore,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and often can’t wait to get moving.
In their book Your Child’s Emotional and Behavioral Development (Da Capo Press, 2006), paediatricians T. Berry Brazelton and Joshua D. Sparrow point out that making the effort to nurture baby’s inner drive and self-motivation from now on is very important. Doing so gives her confidence and helps propel her forward in her development.
