As I gazed upon the timeless sky, my senses were awakened to the aroma of azure perfection. The taste of sallow clouds enlivened my mind's eye. Walking through the various chambers of metaphor, I see the cast of memories and apparitions as they gather to play out their cosmic drama. Most are friendly; some are hiding their true purpose.
The feeling of familiarity resonates throughout. In this place, I feel warm and safe and without care or worry. A nexus of utopian design and feel, in this place I will linger for a fortnight or longer. But things are feeling too good. Prophetic words emanate from a source of undisclosed origin. The dissident sound of this counsel erupts into a clash of horrific proportions. The ceiling of this world is stricken black with doom and foreshadow of a greater evil to come. My tranquility is exchanged for panic. My heart sinks, as I look to the sun to see if it still hangs in the sky. I cannot find it, and the sum of all my fears are about to unfold in an unrelenting swan song. Just then, through the haze, I see a dismal illumination personified in a white beacon of light. It is the sun. Fixating my mind on that one point, all fears are eradicated. This world once again returns to its glory and luster, as hope springs anew inside of me.
Believe it or not, this was a dream that I had one night not so long ago. It was absolutely frightening! Due to my complete and utter stubbornness, I rarely wake up from nightmares. Inevitably, I spend the greater part of the day after one of these dreams in contemplation. I'm always trying to figure out what is manifesting itself through my subconscious and seeping aimlessly in to my beauty rest (which, by now, you must have figured out that I need a great deal of it). I am usually very good at deciphering the arduous terrain of my dreamscapes, but in this particular adventure, I came up short. So, in the interest of someone hopefully benefitting from my transcendental vacation, it has found its way into this edition of my newsletter. I do, however, have some ideas about the lesson involved here.
So many times in this life, we are plugging along and everything is just great. We have the job we want, we have the relationship we want, and we have all the material possessions we want. Then one day, albeit through our own lack of judgment or the circumstance that surrounds us, things just don't go our way. It may not last for a great period of time, but it really throws a wooden shoe into our giant machine. The phenomena that tether us to our thinking, can sometimes feel just like this dream did for me. It is so easy to lose sight of that one point in our lives that makes such a difference. Rest assured, we can find our way again. It is not as hopeless as it seems sometimes. There is always a way. Look at your workouts, and your life. Ask yourself this question: "Am I going to give up when it doesn't go my way, or am I going to keep going forward and remain unfettered in my approach to things?" You can't always choose what happens to you, but you can choose how you deal with it.
If we practice keeping a mind of non-attachment, then we can look at things through the eyes of objectivity. One of my favorite quotes from a movie is, "Try not to bend the spoon, instead realize the truth." "The truth?" "There is no spoon. Then you will find that it is not the spoon that bends, it is only yourself." This quote is from The Matrix. I'll bet you would have never guessed that it is my favorite movies of all time. At this point in the movie, the main character is struggling with some of the same feelings that we are talking about. Feeling lost and as if he has failed, a small boy offers him this advice. I know it seems somewhat clichéd, but bending ourselves around situations instead of getting bent, can make all the difference in how we respond to the things around us. Give it a shot, find your focal point and move toward it, without fail. It's amazing, you might find that the dark clouds go away, and the sun comes shining through once again.
For us, Halloween was here. Some of the older folks were concerned about tomorrow night,Dior sunglasses, which was really Halloween night. We had been told, "Tomorrow night you are not leaving this house." The story was the same with all of us. There was a conspiracy among the older folks. They had it in their heads to spoil our tricking, but our plans were already made, and we had taken what our folks had said into account. We would do our tricking on this night, the night before Halloween and forget about the treats of tomorrow night. Our plan was for all of us to get out of the house as quickly as we could after supper. If your folks raised suspicions, then you were to sneak out before supper. After all, what is a meal missed when the fun of Halloween was about to begin?
Just before supper, Wizzer gave our signal then hollered for me from outside the kitchen door just like we had planned. Mom never could say no to Wizzer. I had never told Wizzer about this, but one day I had heard Mom say that she felt sorry for him, what with him being a change of life baby and all. It wasn't my intent to spy on her. This particular conversation was overheard at one of her gabfests with her friend Julia. I was only trying to do what I had been trying to do with no luck at all for as long as I could remember. Namely, it was to see Mrs. Wetzel sleeping and doing something that took some watching and being careful. Just now, they was pitting and peeling peaches and getting them ready for canning.
