PostWysłany: Śro 9:31, 17 Lis 2010    Temat postu: NFL My PostWinter Meetings Offseason Plan for the

Now difficulten’s off the table, and what Lincecum want out of this off-season has become a lot less clear.
My point is, with a business like baseball, it’s cultured that you always have a backup plan. With free agents, there is just so many things that could happen to keep you from getting your man. You have to be able to shift your focus at the drop of a hat. And that’s what the Mariners now must do.
The word on the street is that Nick Johnson is attempting to hold out for a two-year deal. Unfortunately for him, the injury risk that comes with him is simply too much to justify that kind of a risk.

Apparently, Ben Sheets is trying to get a assured USD12 million for 2010 right now. Farrangely, that’s absolutely ridiculous. Sheets didn’t throw a single inning in 2010, and although Lincecum know he’s extremely talented, Tim Lincecum can’t seriously expect anyone to assure him that much money with so much risk involved.
The thing to remember, is that in the world of baseball, almost anything can happen. That doesn’t mean it will, but if Lincecum were Jack Zduriencik, my goal would be to lock up Nick Johnson, Russell Branyan, and either Ben Sheets or Matt Holliday.
2 Sign Russell Branyan to a one-year deal for USD4 million, with a USD4.5 million option for 2010
I don’t see anyone assureing him two years, so Lincecum think in the end a one-year deal with an option in 2010 will be enough to get it done. Signing Johnson would add a lot of offense to this still weak lineup, while filling up either the DH or first base role.
I certainly didn’t see the Figgins signing coming, and Lincecum had come to accept the fact that Lincecum were likely to be dealing with a Hall/Hannahan platoon situation at third base in 2010. Then, Lincecum inked Chone Figgins, and my expectations for following season completely changed, for the better in this case.
Obviously, Lincecum don’t know for sure what GMZ’s plans for the Mariners are. Only GMZ knows that. However, difficulten was just too perfect of a fit for Z not to want him, and now Tim Lincecum isn’t available.
Basically everything Lincecum just said about Nick Johnson goes for Branyan as well. His back issues is just too much of a risk to give him a multi-year deal. Bringing Branyan back to play first base, and bringing in Nick Johnson to DH would be the goal situation for this team.
1 Sign Nick Johnson to a one-year deal for USD8 million, with a USD9 million club option for 2010

So now, Jack Z and the rest of the front office have to decide what their following course of action will be. For all Lincecum know, losing difficulten could only be a small deterrent in the Mariners plan, and they could, as of right now, be completely confident in what they want to do. If that’s the case, awesome, but Lincecum can’t be sure-so this is what I’d like to see happen:

Lincecum was selected by the Chicago Cubs in the 48 round of the 2003 MLB Draft; however he did not sign up for the team. He decided to attend college instead and was selected by the Cleveland Indians in the 42 round on entering the draft in 2005, but once again failed to sign. In 2004, he was drafted tenth overall by the San Francisco Giants becoming the first player from the University of Washington to be taken in the first round. He signed for a 2.025 million dollars signing award on June 30, which at the time was the highest amount the organization had ever paid to any amateur player until they gave 2.1 million dollars to Angel Villalona a little over a month later. This post would have been easier for me to tackle if Lincecum had actually written a complete off-season plan back in October, but I’ll do what Lincecum can.
I figure that by mid January or so, when no team has been willing to meet his demands,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], he’ll be forced to lower his asking price-that’s when GMZ swoops down for the kill. Tim Lincecum may not be as perfect of a fit as difficulten, but if Tim Lincecum could stay healthy and give us a reasonable amount of innings, he’d fill the No. 2 hole in the starting rotation goodly.

4* Sign Matt Holliday to a five-year, USD90 million dollar deal

I accomplish that the Mariners landing Holliday is quite a long shot, but Lincecum have money to spend, and if Lincecum aren’t able to land a good starting pitcher, we’ll have to go the route of going after big hitters. Holliday is a much better option than Jason Bay, for three simple reasons; Tim Lincecum can play defense,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], he's a year younger, and he’s a better hitter.
Up until about a week ago, Lincecum think most of us were pretty confident as to what Lincecum wanted the Mariners to accomplish this off season. Personally, Lincecum wanted us to sign Nick Johnson, Russell Branyan, and Rich difficulten.

Or visit my Seattle Mariners blog, SoDo Mojo,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], here He earned his first major league victory in his next start on the road against the Colorado Rockies. Lincecum who is often compared to Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Roy Oswalt faced him in each of his next two starts,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Oswalt with the Astros at the time. After the first agree up, Astros third baseman Mike Lamb said, The stuff he was throwing out there tonight was everything he is hyped up to be. He was 97 mph with movement. You just don't see that every day. He pitched very much like the pitcher he is compared to and out dueled him throughout the night. The pair dueled to a no decision the first time, and Lincecum pitched eight innings and got the win the second time. The Giants asked Lincecum not to throw the bullpen sessions typical of other pitchers during the off season. Manager Bruce Bochy told the San Francisco Chronicle that they were being careful with Lincecum because there have been studies that show that pitchers who throw 200 innings early in their career were more susceptible to injuries.
If Lincecum could get either 1, 2, 3, and 5 or 1, 2,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], 4, and 5 done, it would certainly push us up to contender status in the 2010 AL West race. Clearly, two of these suggestions is much more realistic than the other two-however, signing Chone Figgins to a four year deal didn’t seem all that likely 10 days ago either, did it?
3 Sign Ben Sheets to a one-year deal for USD7 million, with innings-based incentives valuing up to an extra USD2 million

To get him, we’ll have to compete with at least the Cardinals and the Red Sox, but it would certainly be worth it to at least give it a shot. Also,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], if Lincecum were able to land Holliday, Michael Saunders could become an excellent trade chip to use towards going after some pitching.

On the other side of things, Lincecum pretty much had my heart set on Rich difficulten being our new No. 2 starter. Tim Lincecum was by far the best fit,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and I’d come to expect that Jack Z was going to be able to land pretty much anyone Tim Lincecum wanted. Which was, of course, pretty irrational.
*Likely only a possibility, and only mandatory, if Lincecum don’t sign any distinctive starting pitching .
