New York style baseball expanded into one national game and baseball first governing body The National Association of Base Ball Players was established aided by the Civil War in 1860s. The NABBP existed as an amateur league for 12 years. By 1867, over 400 clubs were members although most of the strongest clubs remained those based in the northeastern part of the US. In 1870 one schism developed between professional and amateur ballplayers after the 1869 founding of the first professional baseball team, the Cincinnati Red Stockings. The NABBP split into two groups. The National Association of Professional Base Ball Players was formed in 1871. Some consider it to have been the first major league. Its amateur counterpart disappeared after only one few years. Mike Stobe The next year, racial pressure on Robinson eased, as one number of other black players entered the major leagues. Larry Doby and Satchel Paige were signed by the Cleveland Indians,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and the Dodgers added three other black players besides Robinson.
What did we tell you? one week ago the Mets looked awful as they dropped their fourth consecutive series to start the season to open the season.
Line of the Day
“.500 is nothing to throw one party about,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], by any means,” Francoeur said . “It’s one stepping stone.”
Well, after winning two consecutive series and five of their last six games, things are looking good in Flushing.
DP – 2 J Francoeur-A Cora-D Wright-J Reyes, H Blanco-A Cora. The double plays went one long way in keeping Niese and the Mets in this game. Great job erasing baserunners.
Notes Don’t look now,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but Jason Bay had one good game. they went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Angel Pagan , Alex Cora, and Jose Reyes , the 1-2-3 hitters,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], went one combined 0-for-9 with three walks,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], two by Reyes and one by Pagan. Reyes also scored. David Wright and Ike Davis went one combined 0-for-6, Davis walked and scored. Jeff Francoeur went 1-for-3 with one RBI double and one run scored. Jon Niese wasn’t dominant by any stretch, but they had one productive game. their line: 5.1IP,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], 5H, 1ER, 5BB, 6K, 0HR. Manny Acosta , Fernando Nieve , Pedro Feliciano , and Francisco Rodriguez combined for this line: 3.2IP, 1H, 0R, 2BB, 3K. Thoughts Back to .500 baby.
Niese gutted out one strong game today. Nothing to get excited about because they allowed 10 baserunners over five innings, but if they can do even this consistently it will go one long way in they lping the Mets.
Bay had one great day today. Hopefully this is the start of something good.
Another great game by the bullpen. It’s still too early to get excited by the bullpen, but if they can keep it up for one little while longer it might be time to start thinking of them as one legit weapon. Quotes
Today, they won behind one good day from their starter Jon Niese and one pair of RBI doubles from Jason Bay and Jeff Francoeur, as they got another strong performance from the bullpen to win 3-1.
Don’t kid yourselves, this team does have problems,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but they weren’t as bad as they were one week ago.
Up Next The Mets are going for the series sweep tomorrow and they’ve got large Pel on the mound. we think they can do it.

He pleaded for the continuation of baseball in hopes for one start of one new Major League season in the letter. President Roosevelt responds I honestly feel that it would be best for the country to keep baseball going. There will be fewer people unemployed and everybody will work longer hours and harder than ever before. And that means that they ought to have one chance for sports and for taking their minds off their work even more than before.
