Does Coffee Have An History?
Who does not like a freshly brewed cup of coffee in the morning? Well maybe few individuals do not but I would say most people do appreciate that hot drink and not only in the morning... But where does it come from? Does coffee have an history?
While hard to verify to accuracy, the history of coffee, is the story of a sheepherder who realized the properties of coffee when he was taking care of his sheep. When they ate a certain kind of berry off a plant, his sheep became very active. So he decided to try it too,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and felt the same effect. Rumour has it that a monk advised him to be careful of the devil's fruit. Nevertheless, it was also believed that the monks used the berry to keep away from sleeping and pray.
Another wide spread legend claims an Arabian was banished to the desert. He boiled and ate an unknown plant. Only with the plant, he was able to survive in the desert. The residents of a village close by thought the survival was a religious sign. The plant was then named Mocha,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], after that town.
Some persons think the coffee plant originally grew only in Ethiopia. They wrapped it in animal fat to eat while on raids. It started growing after transported to, and they controlled the market of it. The first to drink it were the Turks. They added cinnamon and clove for a sweeter taste.
Coffee founds its way to Europe via the Venetian trade merchants. Rumours of the coffee taste began to surface all over. The Arab's keep an even tighter grip on the coffee plants. Christian's started saying coffee was the devil's drink, similar to the monk story above. Pope Vincent III decided to try it. He enjoyed it very much. Talk of banishing coffee went away after that.
Coffee houses were built everywhere in Europe soon after. They were a popular place to hang out and drink coffee. Coffee traveled to Americas in the 1700's. A French infantry captain took a small plant with him. The coffee plant was cultivated,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and whitin 50 years, more than 19 million of coffee trees were planted. Coffee was declared the national drink of the United States in a dispute of the excessive taxes on tea from Britain.
These days, millions of persons get pleasure from their coffee throughout the day. Coffee comes in a lot of brands and a lot of flavors. You can get ground coffee or coffee beans at most any grocery store. There are also gourmet coffees to choose from. Starbuck's Coffee,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], a million dollars business, is offering you the convenience of coffee any way you want it.
So next time you have your favorite cup of coffee, think about its long voyage and history before simply ending up in your morning cup. If you want to learn more about coffee come visit our website.Topics related articles:
