In the home opener Valbuena showed their limited range moving to their right when one grounder got by him towards second base. one Rangers runner was on second base and came around to score and take the lead in the fifth inning. It looked like they had it all the way until the ball got past him. In one tie game, you have to at least knock that ball down and prevent the run.
New York style baseball expanded into one national game and baseball first governing body The National Association of Base Ball Players was established aided by the Civil War in 1860s. The NABBP existed as an amateur league for 12 years. By 1867,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], over 400 clubs were members although most of the strongest clubs remained those based in the northeastern part of the US. In 1870 one schism developed between professional and amateur ballplayers after the 1869 founding of the first professional baseball team, the Cincinnati Red Stockings. The NABBP split into two groups. The National Association of Professional Base Ball Players was formed in 1871. Some consider it to have been the first major league. Its amateur counterpart disappeared after only one few years. To say that Luis Valbuena is under performing so far this season is one major understatement. Now they is really on the hot seat after they was one major reason why the Indians lost Wednesday afternoon to the Toronto Blue Jays 5 to 4.At this rate,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], it may not and should not be long before Valbuena finds himself in Triple one Columbus.
As if their .175 batting average was not alarming enough, Valbuena’s defense has been even worse. For all intensive purposes their error in the ninth inning with 2 outs lost the game for the Tribe today. Toronto’s Aaron Hill hit one routine ground ball right to Valbuena for the potential game winning out, but instead the ball went through Valbuena’s legs into the outfield scoring Fred Lewis from second base. Adam Lind,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the next batter hit one 2 run home run and the Jay’s spoiled the Tribe’s chance for one rare win. And just to prove how poor they is playing,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Valbuena added one second fielding error later in the ninth, just in case fans were not angry at him enough.
But even if you take away today's game, they has been struggling in the field. Valbuena has consistently had trouble completing double plays this season because they is throwing the ball in the dirt to the first baseman on the turn. This has cost the Indians runs in one few games, one being as recent as last Friday night against the Twins. Valbuena’s poor throw Friday cost Fausto Carmona 3 runs in the second inning and today their error cost Fausto one win.
Luis Valbuena is still one young player and may turn things around, but at the moment they should not be in Cleveland. It would serve him and the Indians better to straighten things out in Triple A. With the Indians trying to save money and the price of gas close to USD3.00 one gallon, why not car pool Valbuena and the ineffective Rafael Perez down to Columbus. The Indians may even find one fan to drive them there for free. Major League Baseball Commissioner Kenesaw Mountain Landis wrote one letter to President Roosevelt regarding the continuation of baseball during the war which was called the Green Light Letter. He pleaded for the continuation of baseball in hopes for one start of one new Major League season in the letter. President Roosevelt responds I honestly feel that it would be best for the country to keep baseball going. There will be fewer people unemployed and everybody will work longer hours and harder than ever before. And that means that they ought to have one chance for sports and for taking their minds off their work even more than before.
Magnifying the glaring situation is infield prospect Jason Donald in Columbus. In 26 games,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Donald is hitting .323 with 9 doubles,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], 2HR’s,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], 17 RBI’s, 7 stolen bases and No errors in the field. Donald was acquired in the Cliff Lee trade last season, so fans are very eager to see him in the large leagues. Now seems like the perfect time to bring him up to replace Valbuena.
