The First Family of Football is about to get a new addition.
[link widoczny dla zalogowanych][/u], the Giants starting quarterback,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], is scheduled become a daddy during the offseason, a team spokesman confirmed. He and Abby, his wife of 2 ½ years, are expecting their first child sometime this spring.
It will be the first child for either of the famed NFL quarterback brothers, including Peyton, the future Hall of Fame quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts. The 29-year-old Eli, the Super Bowl XLII MVP, has been with Abby, 26, since their days together at Ole Miss. They were married in a private ceremony in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, in April 2008 - - just two months after he led the Giants to a Super Bowl win over the then-undefeated New England Patriots in one of the most monumental NFL upsets of all time.
Eli was unavailable to comment yesterday after the Giants (5-2) returned from their bye week with a brief, morning practice.
So far this season, Eli has hardly seemed distracted by his impending lifestyle change. He has completed 65.7 percent of his passes (157 for 239) through seven games - - a number which would eclipse his career high if it continues. He's also thrown for 1,785 yards and 14 touchdowns and has the Giants sitting atop the NFC.
The only downside has been his NFL-worst 11 interceptions. However, seven of those passes have been deflected off his own receivers' hands.
The exact due date for Baby [link widoczny dla zalogowanych][/u] is unknown, but with an NFL lockout seeming likely to begin in March, 2011 and likely last for several months, Eli shouldn't have trouble getting time off to help Abby and to be with his child.
