Steve Smith, CAR - It's hard to blame Smith for his lack of productivity this year. Carolina has a gaping hole at quarterback. Still,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], you need to think twice before clicking the "active" option next to Smith's name. To make matters worse, Matt Moore is out for the season, so Jimmy Clausen is back at the helm for the rest of the season. If you watch any more Panthers games, expect a lot of tight shots of Smith cursing, complaining and crowing in frustration.
Ronnie Brown, MIA - For once, health isn't the issue. Brown finds himself in what has turned into a pass-first offense. That, and an even split with Ricky Williams has sapped Ronnie of any upside he had left. He's nothing more than a bye or injury replacement at this point. [link widoczny dla zalogowanych]
Matt Schaub, HOU - The fifth or sixth QB drafted in most leagues, Schaub is playing like a fantasy backup. Five single-digit games out of eight simply won't cut it. You may not be bold enough to cut Schaub, but you should be starting guys like Josh Freeman and Ryan Fitzpatrick over him.

Chad Ochocinco, CIN - He's got two monster games this season, so you know the potential is still there. Yet those big games are now the exception to the rule. You can only suffer through so many three-catch, 34-yard days. He did warn us by saying he'd be Robin and Terrell Owens would be Batman. So far, Chad's been more like the Joker.

Miles Austin, DAL - On a team full of underachievers, Austin may take the cake. He's had a handful of fantasy-friendly games. But on the other hand, there are the four games in which Austin combined for nine catches, 86 yards and no touchdowns. The situation in Dallas is messier than a pie-eating contest, so a turnaround is unlikely. [link widoczny dla zalogowanych]
Nobody's Above a Benching
Ravens DST - Defenses don't get a free pass. The Ravens defense finally showed up against the Dolphins last week. It's about damn time. This unit allowed 514 yards to the winless Buffalo Bills! Right now, I'd rather swap in a defense that has an easy matchup than rely on Ray Lewis, who's too busy making Old Spice commercials. [link widoczny dla zalogowanych]
[link widoczny dla zalogowanych] , PHI - Ranked as high as No.4 by fantasy experts coming into the season, [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] has been a profound letdown. I'm pretty sure Tom Selleck's mustache could score as many points as [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] has this season. If you own [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I hope you had the foresight to replace him with Jacob Tamme.
Randy Moss, TEN - If you're a regular of my stuff reader at TheFantasyGeek.com, you know how I've made it my personal mission to persuade Moss owners to get anything they can for him in trade. I recently gave an owner the green light to swap Moss for Jahvid Best. Heck, I'd have given the thumbs up if the guy was getting a package of beef jerky for him. Moss is a far cry from what he was in 2007. He hasn't had a 100-yard receiving effort in 16 games. Now, I know what you're thinking: "He's on a new team and things will be different." Look, I own him in one league (that doesn't allow trades) and I'll start him in his Titans debut. But he no longer gets a free pass each week. These days, a bad matchup will land his skinny behind on my bench. [link widoczny dla zalogowanych]
Wes Welker, NE - This one is genuinely a surprise to me. Welker went from being Tom Brady's security blanket to being a wet blanket to fantasy owners. He has no 100-yard receiving games this season and hasn't found the end zone since Week 2. Bench him until he shows signs of life.
Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Peyton Hillis. Arian Foster. Michael Vick. There's no shortage of fantasy surprises this season. The other end of the spectrum, however, is also densely populated. More so than usual. Many of the big names aren't giving you big games. When you draft a player in the top five or six rounds, you expect him to be an every-week starter. Well, several key players are delivering inconsistent performances, while others have just been consistently disappointing. When managing your lineup, you can no longer just "set it and forget it." It may pain you to bench the players on the following list, but they can no longer be considered automatic starters every week. [link widoczny dla zalogowanych]
Vikings DST - In most leagues The Geek is in, Minnesota's defense/special teams was drafted second, after the Jets. Another reason why you don't need to waste a mid-round pick on D/STs. The good news is that Jared Allen and company had six sacks versus the Cardinals. Prior to that, they had a big goose egg in each of their previous three games. "The Williams Wall" has crumbled and this defense is buried in the rubble. [link widoczny dla zalogowanych]
David Owen Cymerman is also known as The Fantasy Geek. He runs a fantasy sports web site appropriately named TheFantasyGeek.com. Stop by for more observations, advice and absurdity from the world of fantasy sports, including articles, live chats and podcasts.
Cedric Benson, CIN - There was concern about Benson coming into the season, but that didn't stop owners from grabbing him in the second or third round. He has as many touchdowns (2) as fumbles and his carries are way down this year. As the Bengals continue to play from behind and rely on the passing game, Benson, the centerpiece of the offense in 2009, becomes more and more of an afterthought. What a difference a year makes.
Brandon Marshall, MIA - Tons of owners out there just leave Marshall in without considering his stats. I know because I'm one of them. I still consider him a stud, despite the fact that he's netted me seven fantasy points or less in all but two games this season. It's not easy sitting down a guy like Marshall, but right now Steve Johnson, Mike Williams (TB) and Dwayne Bowe are more reliable.
