New TV Series Face a Difficult Marketing Climate
Inspired by the book, The Reincarnationist, by M.J. Rose, this new television show follows a psychologist and a former NYPD homicide detective who solve crimes via an unusual method – by regressing people to their past lives. Starring Kelli Giddish, Nicholas Bishop, and Richard Schiff, its original 13-episode order was cut down to 7 [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], to air during Fringe's timeslot.
Starz has made a big push into scripted programming and Spartacus is one of its first offerings. Even before its series premiere, the show has already been renewed for a second season. Shot 300-style, it follows the life of a Roman slave, with all the CGI effects, blood, and nudity that implies. The show hails from the same team that brought audiences Hercules and Xena; Lucy Lawless has a supporting role.
'Tis the season of midseason replacements. After the holiday hiatus, cable and broadcast networks are slowly starting to air first-run scripted programming again, including a slate of new TV shows to replace those they've canceled. Here's a short guide to the notable ones.
Inspired by the Peter Milligan comic of the same name, this fast-paced drama follows a for-hire detective/bodyguard and his team. It stars Mark Valley, Jackie Earle Haley, and the always-excellent Chi McBride.
February 11: Past Life on Fox
The CW's lone upcoming scripted series premiere, the show follows a foster kid trying to become an emancipated minor, who then reunites with her birth parents. It stars Britt Robertson, Shiri Appleby, and Kris Polaha. CW Facebook fans can see the first ten minutes online beginning on January 11.
January 18: Life Unexpected on the CW
In the vein of Grey's Anatomy – and airing in FlashForward's timeslot – this new television show from David Hemingson follows five first-year associates at a cutthroat LA law firm. Starring Matt Long, Leah Pipes, Ben Lawson, Tina Majorino, and Mehcad Brooks, the show's six episodes will air through March.

The highly-anticipated prequel to cult hit Battlestar Galactica, Caprica takes place some 50 years before the destruction of the human race. This long-awaited companion to the classic Band of Brothers brings audiences the story of the Marines fighting in the Pacific theater. Spielberg and Hanks once again team up for the 10-part miniseries, hailed as the most expensive ever made.
