What Happens in Vegas is a predictable romantic comedy about two New Yorkers who end up in Vegas after a run of bad luck. Recently dumped Joy McNally and recently fired Jack Fuller leave the Big Apple for a night of unadulterated fun in Sin City. However, after spending a debauchery filled evening with each other, they wake up to more than just a hangover. In their drunken stupor, they got married.
Why See It?:
After spending the morning bickering over an annulment, Jack wins a 3 million dollar jackpot with Joy’s quarter. And so the battle for the money begins. When it comes time for the annulment, the unrealistically harsh judge refuses and instead sentences the two lovebirds to six months hard marriage, freezing the money until then.
It’s funny, it’s romantic and it will make you feel good. Plus, the scenes in Vegas will make anyone want to jump on the next plane and indulge in some raunchy fun. The characters, although predictable and somewhat one dimensional, have amazing chemistry and fuel some classic one-liners and awkward yet hilarious situations. This movie is as unsurprising as the title’s next line [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], yet the comic cast and classic circumstances make it definitely worth watching.
Cameron Diaz and Ashton Kutcher star as Mr and Mrs Fuller, the unhappiest newlyweds in the world. These two ignite the perfect love/hate chemistry needed for the film to actually work. Diaz plays work-a-holic Joy with compassion and hilarity while Kutcher plays his role of the young-at-heart Jack like a pro. These roles are the typical characters both Diaz and Kutcher are used to playing and thus it is no wonder they are so believable and empathetic.
Lake Bell and Rob Corddry co-star as Tipper and Hater, Joy and Jack’s supportive and comic best friends. Bell and Corddry bring more than their fair share of hilarious moments to the stage with their realistic bickering and actual disgust for each other. Memorable performances by Michelle Krusiec as Joy’s over-achieving co-worker, Queen Latifah as the happy couple’s therapist and Treat Williams as Jack’s tougher-than-nails dad/boss add to the comedy.
